During high school i was always fascinated in electronic circuits. I was amazed when we created a home made amplifier and guitar effects.

I am also amazed to my neighbor’s sound system he made from he’s college school, i think it was IETI. I always wanted to create those things and really like making things with my own hands.

Just recently, Beck and I enrolled at Mapua Institute of Technology for Cisco 1. Our friends and one of my student at TUP also enrolled in the same class.

For me it was fun and exciting studying again in different school. Seeing many students and professors at MIT makes me feel like I am a college student again but its pain in the ass waking up early during Saturdays haha.

Beck and I discuss this studying thing and was planning to complete the rest of the modules needed and take the CCNA exam.

Make a rule that you will read X number of books you currently own before buying another one. Set a “read-to-purchase ratio”. All platforms: Free and open source virtualization software VirtualBox gets a “major upgrade” to version 2.1 which is now available for download.

Besides a gaggle of fixes, the changelog details new features:

Run Windows Apps Seamlessly Inside Linux

You love working inside your Linux desktop, but at the most inconvenient times you’ve got to reboot into Windows—whether to open a tricky Office file, try out a Windows application, or even just play a quick game. However, with some free tools and a Windows installation disk, you can have Windows apps running right on your Linux desktop and sharing the same desktop files. It’s relatively painless, it takes only a little bit longer than a Windows XP install, and it works just like virtualizing Windows on a Mac with Parallels Coherence—except it’s free. Here’s how to set up Windows inside VirtualBox, and then get Windows apps running seamlessly inside your desktop.

Before getting started, make sure you have enough space on a hard drive for a Windows XP installation (meaning at least 5 GB) and enough memory to make two systems worthwhile.You can follow most of these steps if you want to try running Vista inside Linux, but your mileage might vary, of course (and check out this tip on making Vista’s networking work).

If you’re curious what the end result might look like, here’s a screenshot from my quick installation. I would’ve loved to have gotten iTunes running, but I didn’t have time to wait for all the post-XP-installation patches/upgrades to install to show you.

Save complete web pages in a single file, using one of the following formats:

MAFF (Mozilla Archive Format File)

MAFF files are standard ZIP files containing one or more web pages, images, or other downloadable content. Additional information, like the orirginal page address, is saved along with the content; this metadata allows the browser to open these files intelligently.

For example, you can save to disk all the open tabs at once in a single MAFF file.

MAFF files are not proprietary, and once saved with Firefox they can be opened on any modern computer system, using your favorite ZIP extraction utility. Learn more…

Shōnen(Legal definitions)
According to Japanese law, the term “shōnen” refers to “a person from the time they enter elementary school until the time they are 18 years of age” (Child Welfare Laws (児童福祉法, Jidō Fukushi Hō?), Article 4.3), and “Any person who has not reached the age of 20 years” (Juvenile Law (少年法, Shōnen Hō?), Article 2.1). In the realm of education and culture, this is the period of compulsory education. While the term “shōnen” can refer to both young males and young females, the generally accepted term for young females is shōjo.

Hikō shōnen (非行少年, Hikō shōnen^?)

A youth who has been convicted of a crime or confessed to a crime. Other terms include hanzai shōnen, shokuhō shōnen and guhan shōnen, depending on the crime and the age of the perpetrator.

Hanzai shōnen (犯罪少年, Hanzai shōnen^?)

A youth who has committed a crime. (Juvenile Law Article 3.1.1; Juvenile Activities, Police Regulations Article 2.2)

Shokuhō shōnen (触法少年, Shokuhō shōnen^?)

A youth under the age of 14 who has committed a crime. (Juvenile Law Article 3.1.2; Juvenile Activities, Police Regulations Article 2.3)

Guhan shōnen (虞犯少年 or ぐ犯少年, Guhan shōnen^?)

A youth refusing to abide by parental authority, a youth having a lawful reason for not being with their family, a youth who is naturally disposed toward criminal activity or who associates with those disposed toward criminal activity, a youth who frequents suspicious locations, a youth with a tendency to injure or assault other people, for youth with these characteristics and under these circumstances, the law can be applied to these youth. (Juvenile Law Article 3.1.3; Juvenile Activities, Police Regulations Article 2.4)

Furyōkōi shōnen (不良行為少年, Furyōkōi shōnen^?)

A youth that doesn’t fall under the descriptions under hikō shōnen (above), but who is found drinking alcohol, smoking, being out late at night, or participating in other activities that might harm their moral character; basically youth that are being generally delinquent. (Juvenile Activities, Police Regulations Article 2.6)

Higai shōnen (被害少年, Higai shōnen^?)

A youth who has committed crimes due to having had a difficult upbringing. (Juvenile Activities, Police Regulations Article 2.7)

Yohogo shōnen (要保護少年, Yohogo shōnen^?)

A youth who has been the victim of child abuse, in cases where there is no guardianship or guardianship has been deemed necessary for the youth’s welfare, and where the youth doesn’t fall under hikō shōnen (above). (Juvenile Activities, Police Regulations Article 2.8)

Shōjo(Legal definitions)
Shōjo, shojo or shoujo (少女, shōjo^?) is a Japanese word originally derived from a Chinese expression written with the same characters. The Chinese characters (少 and 女) literally mean young/little/few and woman respectively. In Japanese, these kanji refer specifically to a young woman approximately 7-18 years old. Shōjo can often be translated with the English word girl.

The kanji compound 少女 can also be pronounced otome, although otome (meaning “maiden”) is more commonly written with the kanji 乙女.

Like most kanji compounds, the term shōjo is borrowed from Classical Chinese characters, probably via Korea. The term 少女 is pronounced shao nu in Mandarin (pinyin romanization), so nyŏ in Korean (McCune-Reischauer romanization), and shōjo in Japanese (Hepburn romanization), although, as noted above, it can also be pronounced otome in Japanese.

The earliest surviving written record of the term 少女 is on the Book of the Later Han, published in China in the 5th century, in Chapter 86, The myth of Yao, referring to young girls.

In the 7th century, the word was introduced into the Japanese language through the adoption of the Chinese-style Ritsuryō legal system, where it referred to females between the ages of 17 and 20.

Shoujo manga (also known as Shojo manga) primarily target girls. It is the female equivalent of Shonen. The story often centers around romance and love and is closely tied to the Romance and Drama genres.

Shounen manga (also known as Shonen manga) primarily target boys. It is the male equivalent of Shoujo. The story often centers around fighting and action and is closely tied to the Action, Adventure and Martial Arts genres.

Ecchi (or Etchi, from the Japanese エッチ etchi) is derived from a Japanese word meaning “lewd”, “sexy”, “lascivious”, or “naughty” when used as an adjective, and can refer to sexual intercourse when used as a verb or noun.

The nuance of ecchi varies with context, but in general the word itself is comparable in nuance to the English words “naughty” or “dirty” (when used as an adjective). The prefix “H-” is sometimes used to refer to pornographic genres: H-anime, H-manga, etc.

A few moths ago we reviewed a set of speakers from Altec Lansing: ATP3. We were more than satisfied about their performance, quality and design that’s why Altec took our Editors Choice prize which is not very accessible . The problem reported by many users was the unavailability of ATP3 on pricewatch. At that time those speakers have just entered the market so it was explicable. After all Altec Lansing is a very well known producer and many retailers carry their brand. Right now you can find ATP3 in many stores and even on Internet although I wouldn’t recommend ordering them online due to costs involved in shipping.
For today we have a review of the “gaming edition” of ATP3, the ATP5. Like name suggests, ATP5 differ from ATP3 mainly in numbers of speakers. There are also several differences like power, digital source support but we’ll see these in next paragraphs.

First look

ATP5 is a 4.1 speaker system solution. Briefly this means four satellites and one subwoofer designed for PC surround sound experience. Speakers are shipped in an average sized box of about 12Kgs. They are very smart packaged so box dimensions are reduced to minimum. The package contains:

- four satellites and a subwoofer
- all the necessary cables
- users guide

I wasn’t surprised about the design of the satellites simply because I have reviewed ATP3 last year, but they are really impressive. I liked that Altec Lansing provides cables for all connections: digital and analog both inputs and converters for digital inputs. The second thing I was pleased to see was the length of cables. Rear satellites have five meters long cables while front speakers have three meters long cables! I have seen lots of expensive speakers which have only two meters long rear cables.

As you can see in the left the connectivity is made on subwoofer which plays the role of “center hub”. There are two analog inputs (front – rear) and two digital. The mini DIN male jack is used for right front satellite connection which has the controls. All the connectors are color coded for an easy installation. Cables can be plugged in less than a minute due to these features. Let’s take a look to subwoofer as a hole. It is made from wood with several plastic parts. To be more precise on its base there is a plastic enclosure that holds the amplifier.

On the outside you can find the above connectors. Subwoofer is quite unconventional because in most cases the driver is placed with the membrane oriented to the ground but in ATP5 case it is placed like in any regular speaker. The design is inspired, plastic match with the wood chamber quite well. Altec engineers used huge radiators for power transistors used in amplifier design. To be more accurate, just think that all transistors are placed in line and power dissipates on a radiator as large as the subwoofer’s smaller edge. I have opened the subwoofer plastic cover and I liked the content – a perfectly isolated wood enclosure, quality electronic design and parts. Do not try to open it at home because it’s not very easy .
Subwoofer is not magnetically shielded and doesn’t have to be placed near the monitor or near other magnetic sensible equipment. Also remember to don’t place it too close to your case because especially when listening to high volume it may affect the magnetic devices inside your case, HDD for example.
